about

My oldest siblings were raised in Rapid City, South Dakota, and I grew up hearing the stories of their childhood. It was clear they loved their upbringing and often longed for those times. At face value, this song is about when they had to move out of their small home and to another state. In reality, we all have times like these - times we reminisce about and times that make us feel home-sick. These memories are important, and remembering them with gratitude is a powerful tool to light up the moments that don’t shine as bright. My hope is that this song and album awakens old memories, and reminds you to cling to the joys of your past and let them inspire your present and future.

lyrics

So long small home
It’s been nice to get to know you
Roll on Rapid Creek
Climb to the top of old Black Elk Peak

But not all things last
Least of all what’s loved best
Still we go on, go on to
Fields anew

A younger Lewis and Clark
Riding your big wheels to Dinosaur Park
Badlands, cheap thrills
Monolith faces watch over Black Hills

But not all things last
Least of all what’s loved best
Still we go on, go on to
Fields anew

So take these moments and hold on tight
Let them feed your soul throughout your life
‘Cause things won’t always stay the same
Don’t you take for granted the present day
