about

This was another difficult song to write. At face value, it may seem like a simple lullaby - however in this case the roles were reversed. It was her first night at a memory care unit and I was the last visitor for the day. She was obviously confused about where she was and what was going on, so it didn’t feel right to let the nurses try and get her in bed. We knelt at her bedside, folded our hands, bowed our heads, and I tried to pray. It was a difficult moment, and I could hardly get any words out, but after I paused to collect myself she simply said “Lord, we will be good”. That seemed like the best prayer we could have prayed, and it truly captures my mother’s spirit.

lyrics

It’s time for bed oh weary one
We’ll rest our heads, wait for the sun

With folded hands we bowed our heads
On bended knee this prayer you said

Lord we will be good
Lord we will be good

I’ll tuck you in and say goodnight
Just like you’ve done 10,000 times

With folded hands we bowed our heads
On bended knee this prayer you said

Lord we will be good
Lord we will be good
